Ushak/Oushak Carpets were woven in the town of Ushak (also known as Oushak) in Anatolia, about one hundred miles south of Ankara, the Turkish capital. Oushak rugs have been prized for their refinement, quality, and design for over 500 years ago, when they were first in high demand by nobility and royalty of the Ottoman Empire as decorative wall and table coverings. Since then, the reputation of Ushak/Oushak rugs has withstood the test of time: as their reputation increased, so did their value. Their designs, which display a strong Persian/Iranian influence, contain large-scale motifs and rich colors, are distinct. Angora Ushak/Oushak rugs were woven between the late 1880s and 1910, using very fine, high-quality shiny wool.

The term, "Mid-Century Modern" refers to an architectural and interior design style that dominated the design arts between the 1940s through the 1960s, even extending to the 1970s. The style is characterized by sleek geometric lines and patterns; organic shapes; bold solid colors; or color fields of black, white, beige, and gray. Designers frequently created coordinated interiors -- almost like set designs -- with rugs, carpets, wall coverings and furniture complementing each other. In addition, the artwork of well-known painters was often translated into rugs. Another mid-century design style was the re-invention of the traditional Scandinavian Riya rug, also known as the shag rug. Characterized by a thicker, longer pile, the shag rugs were designed with organic shapes and bright colors, rather than more traditional elements.

Many rugs feature a cotton foundation, are double weft and use an asymmetrical knot, while others feature a superb quality wool, resulting in a luxurious feel.
