Indian production of carpets began in the fifteenth century after Babur, a descendant of Genghis Khan, raided and conquered India and established the Mughal Empire, which was then solidified under his grandson, Akbar. Persian/Iranian weavers were brought in to provide the luxurious carpets missing in India, by combining the weaver's skill and Persian motifs with the art of India and taste of its royal leaders. Production centers were established in Kashmir, Agra, Lahore, Delhi, Bhadohi and Mirzapur, among others. Each area is known for its own style of rich colors created by natural dyes and bold, unique patterns. Indian carpets truly are a reflection of the history of the nation and culture of each region.

We are always happy to collaborate with you on a custom carpet that meets all your specifications...and your wildest dreams! Of course, it will be woven on our very own looms with the best materials under the supervision of our experts.

Some of the most breathtaking examples of craftsmanship can be found in Art Deco Indian carpets. These popular Oriental rugs commonly feature open fields with minor medallions and spandrels, surrounded by intricate floral borders, drawing their inspiration from a wide range of global styles and influences. Indian carpets exhibit a mesmerizing appearance that can vary significantly in size, complexity, color, and composition.

Due to Western influence and European demand, the weavers became very prolific to keep up with demand. Designs appealed to Western tastes employing large-scale patterns featuring millefleur (thousands of flowers) motifs. A subtle color palette of light blues, yellow, teal and rust characterize these Indian rugs. Many rugs feature a cotton foundation, are double weft and use an asymmetrical knot, while others feature a superb quality wool, resulting in a luxurious feel.

With a large range of motifs, from the Agra rugs that carry Chinese influence, perfect for a Chinoiserie style setting, to the Mughal carpets, with their flower borders and animal and plant life inspiration, that will make an excellent addition to your vibrant space, to the spectacular Amritsar carpets that capture the exotic side of India while incorporating subtle colonial motif, these rugs display a wide variety of classic designs, artistic elements, and unique color combinations that are capable of blending in with any modern or elegant art and home furnishing. These art deco carpets are highly collectible, and will make a beautiful addition to your home or office.
