Richard Afkari is a world-renowned expert whose encyclopedic knowledge of carpets and rugs is held in the highest esteem and sought out by museum curators, auction house specialists, collectors, and clients. He can identify a rug’s origin not just by country, but also by city, and the specific workshop where the rug was made.
Richard Afkari’s Carpet Conservation and Repair Services were selected to conserve an important group of 17th century Persian carpets acquired from the historic William A. Clark Collection sold at auction by Sotheby’s in 2013, because Richard personally oversaw the work. He has been an invited guest speaker at conferences and special events.
