We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of handmade antique carpets, rugs, and textiles by respecting the age and condition of the piece. Our goal in restoring a piece is to bring back its strength while simultaneously making sure that we retain the appropriate warmth, character, value, and feeling of the rug. The restoration process for items that are 100 years old is obviously different than those that are modern. For an older or antique piece, we work with its aberrations and features to make it strong and yet reflect its current age, rather than returning it to its original state. Some clients may prefer that a rug be “as good as new” while others prefer the older, natural beauty.
After careful examination of the item, we work with the client to determine how the restoration should best reflect the unique identity of each piece. This is important because the quality of the repair impacts the value of the rug. We make sure that whatever work we recommend and undertake maintains both the value as well as the character of the piece.
