Bakhshaish is the name of a mountainous region in northwestern Iran/Persia as well as that of the oldest carpet-producing village. Carpets from here are appreciated for their larger size, bold abstract versions of ancient tribal patterns, and the dynamic styling of classical Persian motifs. The families who made these rugs lived in tents in the mountains; they fathered, processed, and washed the wool and then made the rug. Refined patterns were not possible in coarsely woven carpets. Designers love these rugs because they approximate modern aesthetics yet are both nomadic and authentic. Animal and human figures are represented through simple geometric symbols: a person might appear as a triangle on top of a line with two additional lines to represent the hands or feet. Large, geometric designs that appear on the border create an architectural look and feel. The designs are less dense and contain fewer details. Unlike city rugs of the same time period, whose weavers had access to many dyes to create colorful designs, these rugs typically have two or three colors: undyed wool of ivory/white, beige, and brown.

We are always happy to collaborate with you on a custom carpet that meets all your specifications...and your wildest dreams! Of course, it will be woven on our very own looms with the best materials under the supervision of our experts.

A subtle color palette of light blues, yellow, teal and rust characterize these Indian rugs. Many rugs feature a cotton foundation, are double weft and use an asymmetrical knot, while others feature a superb quality wool, resulting in a luxurious feel.
